Wimbledon 2012
One of the great benefits of being a member of our tennis club is the possibility of getting your hands on tickets to Wimbledon.
The club is allocated a number of Wimbledon Tickets (incl centre court and court one) which are then offered to qualifying members (to purchase) following a members draw which takes place at one of our club nights.
However in order to be in the draw you need to sign up to British Tennis Membership (BTM).
Plus our allocation depends upon the number of members who are signed up to British Tennis membership - so even if you do not wish to go to Wimbledon (ever or just this year), we would like to ask you to sign up anyway. The more members signed up, the more tickets we are allocated.
You need to do this by 31st Jan 2012 for your membership to count towards our allocation this year (though if you join after you are still eligible to go in the draw for a pair of tickets).
So we would like to encourage all members to sign up!
The cut off date this year is 11:59pm on 31st January 2012.
BTM must be valid on 1st February 2012 to count towards your club’s allocation.
Membership is free to all your club members and is now also free to Adults and Juniors involved in an organised tennis programme at a place to play
Your members will then be able to take advantage of a number of exclusive benefits and offers with FREE British Tennis Membership.
There are many ways in which your club members can sign up for BTM:
· Sign up to BTM using the web link http://www.lta.org.uk/britishtennismembership/
· Telephone the Services Hub on 020 8487 7000
· Request BTM application forms from Kent County office
· BTM Bulk sign up – please contact kent@lta.org.uk for further information
*If your members are signing up using a paper form via the post, British Tennis Services need to receive this form by 26th January 2012 to make sure they have time to process it before the deadline.
The Club
The Club owns two hard courts on Wingham Recreation Ground (Goodnestone Road). For those wishing to play a key for the lock on the gate to the courts is available in the wooden pavilion adjacent to the courts. A key to the courts can he hired from Wingham Post Office (during opening hours) or from certain committee members. We are of course always on the lookout for new members. New and current members are most welcome at the club. If you know anyone interested in joining please let any Committee member know. A reasonable standard of play is expected on Club nights and novices may be asked to improve their standard of play before joining in Club play. As part of our recent review the plan is to repaint the courts so they are kept up to date and improve the playing surface for several more years. Your Treasurer is busy applying for various grants to support the cost of this work. The painting is planned for April 2009 and may mean the courts are out of actions for a few days. We will keep you posted. The second big change is the plans for a new “hut”! We have had quotes for a new pavilion which will incorporate the loo as an internal room. Sadly the lack of main drainage means it will continue to be a portaloo type. Again we are exploring various opportunities for grants. The cost of the building is circa £3500. As a tenant of the recreation ground we may be forced to incur the costs of planning permission despite the fact it is a “temporary” structure. Watch this space.
