Wingham Lawn Tennis Club

Wingham Recreation Ground, Goodnestone Road, Wingham

The Club owns two hard courts on Wingham Recreation Ground (Goodnestone Road).  For those wishing to play a key for the lock on the gate to the courts is available in the wooden pavilion adjacent to the courts.  A key to the courts can he hired from Wingham Post Office (during opening hours) or from certain committee members. We are of course always on the lookout for new members.  New and current members are most welcome at the club.  If you know anyone interested in joining please let any Committee member know.  A reasonable standard of play is expected on Club nights and novices may be asked to improve their standard of play before joining in Club play.  Membership forms can be downloaded here. As part of our recent review the plan is to repaint the courts so they are kept up to date and improve the playing surface for several more years.  Your Treasurer is busy applying for various grants to support the cost of this work.  The painting is planned for April 2009 and may mean the courts are out of actions for a few days. We will keep you posted. The second big change is the plans for a new “hut”!  We have had quotes for a new pavilion which will incorporate the loo as an internal room. Sadly the lack of main drainage means it will continue to be a portaloo type.   Again we are exploring various opportunities for grants.  The cost of the building is circa £3500.  As a tenant of the recreation ground we may be forced to incur the costs of planning permission despite the fact it is a “temporary” structure.  Watch this space.
