The Wingham Environmental Group (WEG) was initiated as a result of targets set by the Wingham Village Plan. We meet monthly to consider and promote conservation and environmental improvement within our village. A key target is to reduce the carbon footprint of our community and encourage a more responsible use of resources. It is also important to us that the village should be attractive and safe.

An Open Day held at the Village Hall was an early initiative. This included the provision of information about reducing energy consumption and costs. Various energy reducing devices and re-usable shopping bags were given to visitors. We have followed that by working with the Energy Saving Trust. Residents have been offered individual advice about home insulation and questionnaires are being distributed in late May 2010 to establish what further measures will be most effective in keeping our houses warm.

We are supporting Wingham School in their Environment Week (May 24th-28th), we provide topical tips in the Wingham Community News and we have held a Village Tidy morning.
